Pinot Grigio, d'Arcana 2007 12% abv
Pinot Grigio is the name given to the French grape variety, Pinot Gris. It is widely produced throughout Northern Italy and has become very popular over the last 20 years because it is accessible and consistently produced to a high standard. But the very best Pinot Grigio is produced in the far north of Italy, in the Alto Adige and Trento regions, where the slopes of the dolomites give the wines extra crispness.
This one, from Trento, is wonderfully fresh and light, but packed with character. It is aromatic with a crisp palate full of zesty citrus fruit, and excellent with cold starters, veggie dishes and pasta. But it's also easy going enough to drink on its own.
