Piano Piano, Barbera d'Asti DOC 2005/06 13.5% abv
Piano Piano (meaning slowly slowly) is a young and easy-drinking Barbera, well structured with generous blackberry and citrus flavours, and a slightly spicy finish.
The producers are English ex-pats, Phil and Ingrid Blades, who now live in the rolling hills of Piedmont, and are very passionate about their wines. Phil has been mentored and assisted for the past few years by Roberto Urscheler, a local artisan wine producer of some repute, whose philosophy is firmly focused on quality rather than quantity.
The vines are tended patiently by Phil and Ingrid, and well spaced in excellent soil, with a limited number of grape bunches on the vine. The grapes are picked by hand at just the right time, and the wine is produced using organic and environmentally friendly methods. The result is a limited production Barbera d'Asti that is excellent with red meats, hearty pasta dishes and cheeses.
The wine will benefit greatly from being allowed to 'breathe' for at least half an hour before you drink it.
