Bric del Fruste, Monferrato Rosso Riserva DOC 2001 14% abv
Bric del Fruste (meaning 'the stranger's hill') is a superb example of the best 2001 Barbera vintage from the Monferrato area of Piedmont. It is aged for an additional 12 months in barriques (small oak barrels that ensure more of the wine comes into contact with the wood), resulting in exceptional fruit concentration, complexity and smoothness. Full bodied with intense vanilla and blackberry bouquets.
The producer is Roberto Urscheler, whose Barbera vines are over 60 years old and of the finest quality. In Bric del Fruste, Roberto has produced a wine with great structure and higher tannin content than steel produced Barbera. This wine will age gracefully for up to ten years and indeed will reward your patience by continuing to improve for some time. Barrique wines often fetch premium prices because these wines are quite sought after by collectors. We think that Bric del Fruste 2001 vintage, represents excellent value for money and is a good investment if you want a superb quality wine at an affordable price.
We strongly recommend that you decant this wine, or at least uncork it, to let it breathe for at least two hours before you drink it, as this will improve the flavour considerably. Less than 60 bottles remain for sale anywhere.
